Foresters outdoors

Everyone needs to get outdoors. Below are maps to help you explore the outdoors confidently. All map downloads are "georeferenced," meaning they are tied to a particular set of coordinates. Once loaded to an app like Avenza, there is no need for cell service, just a GPS signal, meaning even in the most remote locations, you'll know where you are. This allows for switching your phone to "airplane mode" to extend battery life.

See instructions for loading maps to Avenza below.

Map List

Ann Close Springs Greenway. A 2100-acre preserve with 40 miles of trails (hiking, horse, and bike). Privately owned with an admission fee (very reasonable yearly memberships available). I've georeferenced their map here.

Birkhead Wilderness. The Piedmont's only wilderness area. Hike through beautiful mature native forests. Georeferenced map here.

Congaree National Park. Both native upland pine and lowland swamp. Areas contain massive old-growth trees. Georeferenced map here.

Linville Gorge Wilderness. One of the few areas (due to its ruggedness) to escape the lumberman's axe. Georeferenced map with trout regulation overlays here.

Pilot Mountain State Park. See one of the most distinctive geologic features of the NC Piedmont. Georeferenced map here.

South Mountain State Park. Hiking trails, waterfalls, and more. State game lands lie adjacent and are included on the map. Georeferenced map with trout regulation overlays here.
